The story behind our new album Beyond Here – out now!

When we set out to write this album we didn’t have any preconceived expectations or goals. We had just weathered a difficult personal and spiritual season and as part of the healing process it felt right to set this journey to music. While this reflects one particular story of ours, the themes of pain, grief, loss and searching that we explore are universal and it is our sincere hope and prayer that whatever storm you may be facing, the music might speak to you and help you to cling to some of that hope, remembering that you are not alone.

Of course, it is not just the storm itself which can be hard to weather, but it can leave behind much destruction and painful reminders of what has passed. And in the days, weeks and months that follow, dealing with the fallout can be a slow, intentional and difficult process.

So we wanted to depict this journey in musical form, and to acknowledge that the end of the storm does not necessarily equate to a final resolution. But that there is power in journeying with God as he works to transform us through such experiences.

Midway through the writing of the album, we encountered a verse from Ephesians that truly spoke into our own personal situation, as well as encapsulated the music that we were writing. This verse perhaps sums up best our intention with Beyond Here, grounding the various themes in the album in faith and hope:

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
